The Meatza Pizza Crust
Is it meatza or meatzza? Does it really matter? Ever since my intermittent fasting experiment, I have been exploring how I feel eating more of a low carb diet. You can read more about my intermittent fasting results here. This meatza recipe came about because pizza really sounded good and I wondered how to make a low carb pizza without a cauliflower crust. Enter meatza (or meatzza), the pizza recipe where you make the crust out of the meat itself!! Looking for more? Check out all of our keto diet recipes. The crust for this meatza uses a mixture of beef and pork for amazing flavor. It’s seasoned with some simple spices and only takes a few minutes to mix together. The flavor turns out tasting like an Italian meatball and when you add on the toppings it’s oh so tasty.
Tips for making this meat lovers pizza
Since making the crust out of ground beef and pork is kind of unique, here are some tips:
First, mix all of the crust ingredients in a bowl. Don’t overmix.Using your hands, spread the crust into a thin, even layer on a 11×17 sheet pan.Press hard with your palm to even out any thick spots in the crust. You’ll want to press and press to get the crust out to the edges of the pan. After the crust has cooked for 15 minutes, it will shrink down and release fat. You can carefully pour off the fat from the pan if desired. Add your toppings and cook for 10 more minutes before cutting into slices and serving.
Low carb pizza toppings
Since the meatza crust is so rich and filling, we kept the toppings pretty simple for this recipe. Here’s what we used:
A simple marinara sauce (no added sugar)A few slices of red onionGreen bell peppersBlack olivesSharp cheddar cheese
Keto pizza sauce
Since a lot of store bought sauces have added sugar, we always use a no-sugar sauce. We also only use about 1 cup of sauce for the entire pizza, so it keeps the carbs per serving low. Here are a few good options we’ve found for no sugar pizza sauces:
Rao’s pizza sauceFody marinara sauceLucini marinara sauce
